Neighbourhood Services Training Company

NSCT is a local certified training agency which has been established for several years and is fast becoming a key training provider in Liverpool. Off site training is provided through local colleges with Croxteth Communiversity providing ICT, Literacy and Numeracy training. Jobsearch facilities are also provided.

Approximately 250, 18-25 year olds passed through NSCT as part of the New Deal programme, some 125 of whom have gone onto fulltime employment.

Three years ago NSCT embarked on a more focused programme of training involving trade-specific apprenticeships. The programme entails 4 days on site placement with 1 day at college.

Since then NSCT has had 34 apprentices on its books covering, painting/decorating, plumbing, plastering, bricklaying, joinery, electrical, landscape gardening and horticulture:

• 16 apprentices have completed their apprenticeship with 9 going on to fulltime employment with our partners NSC Building and Maintenance and NSC Environment, with 4 gaining employment elsewhere. 4 operatives who did not complete their apprenticeship have also been employed by NSC.

• 10 apprentices remain on programme and it is envisaged that a further 18 will be employed over the next 18 months.

Whilst NSCT have so far placed apprentices with partners NSC Maintenance and Building and NSC Environmental we would welcome the opportunity of making placements with contractors engaged in construction/environment projects within the North Liverpool area.

These projects together with the programme of works being carried out by our partner companies NSC Building and Maintenance and NSC Environment will ensure that residents of the Alt Valley community will be in a position to capture skilled job opportunities as they arise, and, help to sustain the local economy for the foreseeable future.
